But there are some key differences with .realtor™, and why I think it has done a lot to move new TLDs forward as a whole. First, although most of the registrations were free, REALTORS® had to actually register them and were limited to just one for free. This means that 80,000 people are now more aware of what’s right of the dot. In other words, they understand a bit more about what a new TLD is.
“I’ve sold quite a few domain names to real estate agents and real estate companies, and it can be difficult convincing them to buy even the best domain names. The response rate, from my experience, is lower with real estate agents than other verticals. Getting 85k Realtors to take a free domain name is quite good, especially considering some people may think that *free* means no value.”

Nine out of ten consumers are searching online for real estate, but only one out of ten are finding their real estate agent online. While personal connections and referrals are a significant reason for this gap, the inability to do deep research about agents online is also a significant contributor. A new partnership project between NAR and realtor.com® aims to help consumers explore and connect with REALTORS® more easily online.

A couple years ago, Adrienne McAdory read that the organization that sets the rules for Web addresses was going to allow people to apply for new top-level domains. No longer would there be just the old top-level domains like .com and .gov. People could apply for any new top-level domain they wanted.
McAdory liked the idea, but it took her awhile to figure out the right domain.
Associated General Contractors of America wants to help members cut through the online clutter. Beginning in mid-April, AGC members can receive a discounted price for a new address using .build—one of hundreds of new generic top-level domains to be added to the Internet this year and next.“It will be easier for our members to be found,” said Jeff Wilson, AGC chief marketing strategist. “It was an opportunity for us to join the train early as well.”
