What are the naming rules for registering a .realtor domain for a brokerage?

Brokerages looking to register a .realtor domain must adhere to specific naming conventions. Firm domains must either match their official firm name as listed in their M1 record or be a name actively used in their business with proper marketing proof. Any domain that does not meet these criteria may be subject to revocation.

Permitted Domain Names

A brokerage can register a .realtor domain using the following formats:

  • Exact firm name as per local board records
    Example: cloudrealestate.realtor

  • Words or letters before the firm name
    Example: buywithcloudrealestate.realtor

  • Numbers before or after the firm name
    Example: 212cloudrealestate.realtor, cloudrealestate212.realtor

  • Interchangeable firm names used in business marketing
Firms may register a name they use interchangeably with their official firm name, provided they submit marketing proof showing its active use.

Pre-Approval Process

If a firm wishes to register a domain name that does not exactly match its formal name, the domain will undergo a review process. To avoid potential revocation, firms are encouraged to seek pre-approval.

To request pre-approval, email support@get.realtor and submit no less than 3 examples demonstrating the active use of the requested name. Please note that a currently registered .com domain does not qualify as proof of use.

Permissible Uses of the .realtor Domain

A .realtor domain must be used exclusively for real estate services, which include:

  • Brokerage

  • Property management

  • Appraising

  • Land development

  • Building

Non-Permissible Uses of the .realtor Domain

The following are not allowed with a .realtor domain:

  1. Street addresses with or without the firm name

  2. Team names

  3. Use of the term "REALTOR" before .realtor (e.g., cloudrealtor.realtor is not permitted)

  4. Domains substantially similar to parent companies whose primary business is the electronic display of real property ads

  5. Domains used for services outside of real estate, such as:

    • Mortgage and loan services

    • Cleaning services

    • Educational services (even if real estate-related)

    • Marketing services

Firms that do not adhere to these guidelines risk having their domain revoked. To ensure compliance, please review the naming rules carefully before registration.
