Success Story: Colleen Murphy

After 15 years of industry experience, NAR member Colleen Murphy continues to build long-lasting connections with homebuyers in Orlando, Florida. The path to long, meaningful relationships begins with understanding and valuing Colleen as a REALTOR®—her top-level domain opens that door.

With the possibility of more income and flexibility with her work schedule, Murphy was eager to become a career agent.

She dove in headfirst. But beyond her Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation and Pricing Strategy Advisor (PSA) certification, Murphy sought another way to distinguish herself in the competitive real estate market.

Building her .realtor brand

Since differentiating herself as a REALTOR® is an incredibly valuable component of her business’ brand strategy, Murphy jumped at the chance to claim her top-level domain in an early period before official launch. Owning clearly signals to the world who she is and what she can offer clients.

“As a professional, I try to take advantage of every opportunity to push the REALTOR® brand further,” Murphy says.

By having her name and her profession married in one URL as well as having her certification and designation graphically displayed on her site, she’s able to stand out from the 10,000 other industry professionals in her metro area.

Leveraging tech as a tool

There have been plenty of technological advancements from when Murphy first started her journey in the industry to now—like virtual showings, social media and mobile organizational applications. She sees these new capabilities as a convenience to both the customer and the REALTOR®—benefits that should only strengthen in-person communication.

Although the majority of Murphy’s clients come through referrals, they still contact her through her site before she meets with them in-person. And written documents are unavoidable in her process—but she still keeps an electronic copy on her at all times for assurance.

“If you are doing your job right, to gain and keep that trust with both the buyer and the seller, you need that human interaction,” Murphy says. “Technology complements that crucial component of our jobs, making our interactions easier.”

Supporting Success

Murphy believes that strong client relationships are the key to her success—starting with setting up a buyer’s home search in-person to checking up on former clients one year later over the phone—and having a .realtor domain spells out “why Colleen Murphy” upfront.

REALTORS® should be using .realtor™ to set themselves apart. My domain is promoting my brand as well as our industry.
